Supermassive Games to Forge New Chapter of Little Nightmares Series

Supermassive Games, the studio behind The Dark Pictures anthology, is working on developing Little Nightmare 3. The game is expected to be released in 2024 on PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Players will have the option to play the game alone, or with a second player, through an AI-controlled character or in an online co-op.

The development of the franchise's third game will shift from Sweden's Tarsier Studios to Supermassive Games. This shift isn't surprising since Embracer, a big European publisher, bought Tarsier in 2021. Although Tarsier has been focusing on other work since the acquisition, Bandai Namco, the series' publisher still holds the rights to Little Nightmares.

Supermassive has earlier partnered with Bandai Namco to develop the Enhanced Edition of Little Nightmares 2 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. In the upcoming game, players will encounter the characters Low and Alone, trapped in a haunting collection of locations known as the Spiral.

Producer Coralie Feniello suggests that while Little Nightmares 3 can be enjoyed without prior knowledge of the franchise, long-time fans will appreciate references to previous installments. The game involves some straightforward multiplayer puzzle-solving, and the environment is periodically disturbed by an off-scene enemy named Monster Baby.

In addition to the new game, Bandai Namco is preparing a six-part podcast titled The Sounds of Nightmares, which will reveal more about the Little Nightmares universe. As Feniello points out, the series universe hasn't been fully explored in the first two games, and this new medium offers a chance to delve deeper into the series' lore.
