New Relic Mode and Other Enhancements Coming to Destiny 2

05 Aug 2023

Destiny 2 is poised to introduce several enticing changes in the upcoming Season 22, including the introduction of a new Relic mode. The mode promises to bring back several favorite weapons from past seasons, like the Aegis from Vault of Glass, the Synaptic Spear from Season of the Risen, and the Scythe from Season of the Haunted. The much-anticipated game mode has been developed to pool the fun and challenge by allowing players to wield these formidable relics in a 6v6 competition setup.

The mechanics of the Relic mode work around players charging their personal relic energy by defeating opponents in the usual load-outs. For gamers to acquire these powerful weapons, they're required to deposit energy into a relic depot. Taking down relic holders will bag players additional points, making the game mode all the more engaging. Relic has been mainly designed for everyone to enjoy lighthearted gameplay, much like Mayhem and Team Scorched.

Apart from the new mode, a Checkmate modifier is also being introduced for a unique spin to the PvP experience. With its focus on enhancing Primary weapon damage, Checkmate is poised to be a game-changer. By lengthening ability cooldowns and changing special ammunition acquisition to gameplay, green bricks will no longer drop on death forcing the players to rely on their firearm skills.

Bungie's commitment to refining the user experience doesn't stop there. They plan to improve matchmaking and add loose Fireteam Matchmaking to Crucible rotators, including Labs in Season 22. They're also working on a small overhaul to Gambit, and several ritual activity changes to improve the gameplay quality. Specific details about these PvP modifications will be revealed in a coming blog update.

In summary, Destiny 2 players can look forward to an exciting blend of nostalgia and novelty in Season 22. With a new Iron Banner mode scheduled for Season 23 and more weapon rewards being added to Crucible's arsenal, Bungie seems to be actively responding to player feedback. It’s clear, Destiny 2's gaming experience is set to evolve significantly in the sessions to come.
