Bumble Sets its Sights on Minimizing Real-World Dating No-Shows

05 Sep 2023

Bumble, a popular dating app and social platform, is working to create safer spaces for its users in both virtual and real-world interactions. The current community guidelines, which also apply to related platforms Badoo and Bumble For Friends, particularly focus on discouraging ghosting and no-show behavior during prearranged meetups.

These guidelines are designed to promote accountability and to protect users from potentially harmful emotional impacts. Any incidents of no-shows or ghosting can be reported by users and will be investigated by human moderators. This policy is a pioneering step in the dating platform industry, according to Bumble.

Besides, the renewed policies categorize such behaviors as bullying and abusive conduct. Victim blaming, including shaming survivors of sexual assault, is also strongly prohibited. This proactive move, an industry first, comes as part of Bumble's initiative to fuel a community that stands for safety and mutual respect.

The new guidelines also address the use of bots and the promotion of adult content on user profiles, which are now strictly banned. These guidelines are continually updated to ensure threats and potential risks are tackled effectively. So far this year, the company has blocked over 8.2 million accounts in response to guideline violations. Bumble continues to rely on a combination of user reporting and automated systems to maintain safe space for its users.
